Children's dentistry

When a child is just starting to cut his teeth, life for parents often turns into a nightmare. It seems to them that with the appearance of all the teeth, problems with them will stop for a long time. But it was not there.

The fact is that many parents have an incomplete, if not completely wrong, understanding of pediatric dentistry. The reason for this is erroneous opinions rooted in the public consciousness, which we will evaluate and debunk below.

There is no need to treat milk teeth, because all the same they will be replaced with molars over time. It turns out that the health of future permanent teeth directly depends on milk teeth. Most of their diseases can go to root. Then, at the time of their eruption, they will already be affected by diseases. Another part of the problem can be the incorrect placement of the first children's teeth. This is fraught with malocclusion even in adulthood. This, in turn, can cause painful complexes that negatively affect the formation of the child and his future life. That is why the health of the child's teeth must be taken care of from the very moment of their appearance.

Any dentist can treat children's teeth. Therefore, if you have a problem with them, there is no need to contact a specialized clinic or doctor. This is not so, because children's dentistry is a separate field of medicine that takes into account all the features of the child's body. When working with babies, dentists use special materials, medicines and tools. That is why pediatric dentistry is much more painless, which is its advantage. And not every dentist will be able to work with children. Much higher requirements are put forward for pediatric specialists of this kind, because in addition to knowing their main responsibilities, they also have to be an excellent psychologist. This helps to find contact with the child, to carry out treatment without screaming, blood and pain. For children, creating this atmosphere is extremely important. If the very first visit to the dentist did not give the child unpleasant sensations and fear, then in the future, visiting doctors will become the norm, and not a severe test. This approach has long been used in developed countries, where a child's trip to the dentist turns into a festive event. Right in front of the entrance to the doctor, children can tinker with toys, draw and communicate with each other, cartoons, books and gifts are provided to their attention. And the treatment procedure usually does not cause problems. After all, for drilling teeth, not a drill is used, but a silent laser. Application anesthesia is used for pain relief, for example, an effective and safe lidocaine spray. As a result, the child leaves the clinic with good emotions, new toys and friends, and, of course, with healthy teeth. Such a baby will visit the dentist for the rest of his life without shuddering, follow his recommendations and take care of his teeth.

It is useless to treat children's teeth with caries, it is better to remove them immediately, allowing new ones to grow in this place. Scientists have proven that early extraction of milk teeth is harmful, as it leads to serious problems. First of all, this concerns the difficulties with the eruption of a permanent tooth. The fact is that after the removal of the affected milk tooth, its neighbors begin to move from their places, trying to fill the void. In this case, the permanent tooth may erupt in the wrong place, which is already taken. As a result, at a more mature age, the wrong bite will have to be corrected. And the absence of teeth will also affect chewing food. In addition to malocclusion, the facial skeleton, diction, and cosmetic imperfections can be disrupted. Therefore, doctors still recommend treating children's caries.

Composite materials should not be used when filling children's teeth. It is not true. The promotion of this myth is facilitated by the fact that our dental clinics simply do not have the conditions for a child to be in a chair for a long time, while the doctor calmly conducts the course of treatment. This approach is used only in specialized children's clinics, where treatment is combined with play. At the same time, modern composite materials are used for filling, which are distinguished by hygiene, durability and aesthetics. If necessary, an oxygen mask will also be applied - nitrous oxide. Such technologies allow the child to relax as much as possible, and the doctor to cure the tooth with high quality. If all the necessary conditions are met, it will be easy to install crowns or neat removable dentures for the child.

In order for the child to take better care of his teeth, he must be constantly intimidated by the dentist. Such delusion is akin to stupidity. If you really do this, then the child will transfer dislike for the dentist and negative attitude towards him into adulthood. Therefore, on the contrary, it is necessary to inspire the child that visiting the dentist is a harmless event and, in some ways, even pleasant. This is the way it is accepted in Europe and America, where there is no problem of fear of the dentist. In addition, dental treatment there is quite expensive, so people realize that it is better to prevent dental diseases in the early stages than to treat them later. It is not customary to scare children with dentists. In our country, this behavior of parents is still considered normal. However, if you go deeper into the root of the problem, then it is not even the parents themselves who are to blame, but the doctors who, during the first visit to them, the child hurt and inspired him with fear. In this case, it is better to change a specialist. Consult your friends and acquaintances, specialists in pediatric dentistry. Before entrusting your baby to a doctor, you should still make sure of his qualifications. Parents need to remember that at an early age it will still be possible to change the child's negative attitude towards the dentist to a positive one. But when the baby grows up, it will become almost impossible.

It will be too expensive to treat a child's teeth in a specialized children's clinic. At first glance, this statement is logical. However, do we take into account how much time and money we can save with this step in the future? If a child grows up with fear of the dentist, then as an adult he will visit the doctor only when the pain becomes unbearable. How much will it cost to visit a specialist and fight neglected cases? Simple calculations show that prophylaxis and treatment of a child's teeth in a specialized clinic will be much cheaper. After all, there he will not experience excitement and fear of the doctor.

It is not necessary for a child to use any special children's toothpaste, any will do. The kid should clean his teeth with special pastes, which are specially designed for milk teeth. Such products have a pleasant taste, but most importantly, they contain a protective mineral composition. From the moment the teeth erupt, they need to be cleaned. To do this, you must first use a silicone brush on your finger. Closer to one year old, you can use a special children's toothbrush in the form of a toy. In such a tool, the bristles are quite sparing, and the sizes are necessary, and the unusual shape can cheer the child. A very important thing for parents will be to teach the child to daily morning and evening brushing of teeth, the procedure must be done correctly.

It is important for the child to eat enough, not as important as correct. In fact, one of the main causes of dental diseases in childhood is just the wrong diet. First of all, to avoid such problems, everything possible must be done so that after birth the baby feeds on mother's milk. After all, breast milk is the most valuable source of protective and nourishing substances. The way in which this food is delivered to the child is also important. After all, he has to make a lot of efforts that contribute to the correct growth, development and formation of the system of teeth and jaws of a little person. Dairy products are generally very important for the development of a child's body, since they contain calcium - the main element of bones and teeth. In the child's diet, dairy products should be constantly, especially until the age of three, when the laying and formation of the rudiments of already permanent teeth ends. A common mistake of parents in this vein is to try to feed the child with juices or sweet mixtures, especially at night and during it. This is what can cause caries in milk teeth. So such a step should be completely ruled out.

The child should be taken to the dentist only when there are problems with the teeth or gums. By making such a mistake, you doom the child to further serious health problems. For the first time, the child must be taken to the dentist in the area of his first birthday. In the future, even in the absence of dental problems, it is necessary to show the baby to a specialist for prevention 2 times a year. If the child has problems, then the visits should be made once every 3 months, or even more often, as prescribed by the doctor. Then all diseases and possible problems will be eradicated in the bud. The fact is that in childhood all pathological processes develop very quickly, while early diagnosis of diseases will make it possible to produce effective, fast and inexpensive treatment. And simple preventive examinations will not cause fear in the child - he will simply realize that he has nothing to fear.

Bottle caries is best treated with silvering. In fact, the effectiveness of the silvering technique has not been proven in extensive dental research. As a result, most dentists believe that children should use silvering of teeth only when the clinic does not have modern equipment to use new technologies. Silvering is effective only for superficial caries. If the disease has already penetrated into the tooth, then silvering will no longer help, as caries will continue its destructive activity from the inside. Moreover, the method has another drawback - its unaestheticness. Over time, the silver will gradually turn black, as a result, the child washes to get complexes because of his smile. Today, medicine has many alternative methods of fighting caries, which leads to the fact that an increasing number of clinics refuse to use silvering of milk teeth.

There is no point in putting crowns on children’s front teeth. For several years this point of view was generally accepted. Then, with significant destruction of the tooth, it was proposed to remove it completely or seal its root with cement. Medical scientists have long tried to come up with methods to rescue and repair damaged front teeth. After all, their removal in the future will negatively contribute to the development of the dentition and diction of the child. More recently, doctors have suggested saving a tooth if the root is preserved with a crown. Often, such a decision is the only way to save a aching tooth and extend its service life. Today, this is the most reliable method for preserving children's teeth until they are replaced with permanent ones. The advantage of this method is evidenced by the fact that the child will be able to fully bite off food, not at all embarrassed by his smile. Not surprisingly, anterior crowns are used in all the leading dental clinics around the world. Usually, preference is given to metal-ceramic crowns, which are not only durable, but outwardly do not differ in any way from the neighboring healthy teeth.

When teething in babies, the temperature always rises, indigestion, anxiety and other unpleasant factors occur. In many children, teeth erupt painlessly. However, most still go through irritability, soreness, and disturbed eating and sleeping patterns. As a result, it is extremely rare for a child to painlessly go through this period. In case of relapses, parents should consult a pediatrician or pediatric dentist. A slight increase in temperature in a child may be caused by the fact that his gums swell, through which teeth are cut. Nevertheless, the process of teething in itself cannot be the cause of an upset stomach or a significant increase in temperature. So do not attribute all the health problems of the baby to the teeth, it may be worth taking a closer look at the symptoms and contacting the pediatrician. Perhaps the baby's problems are not caused by the teeth.

The problem of correct bite in a child should be dealt with only when the milk teeth change to permanent ones. This problem should be dealt with from the moment you noticed it. An incorrect bite is not only a cosmetic problem. As a result, more serious nuances may appear - damage to the teeth and their supporting apparatus, gums. Crooked and crowded teeth are much more susceptible to disease, as they are more difficult to clean. In the future, the matter can come to the loss of teeth. Dangers such as increased wear and tear, ineffective chewing, jaw diseases with accompanying migraines, pain in the neck and face, problems with breathing and gastrointestinal tract, and stress in general should not be underestimated. Although dentistry today can solve occlusion problems at any age, it is recommended to do so in childhood. Indeed, in children this process lasts much less, besides, it is known that children are much easier to tolerate the presence of orthodontic appliances in their mouths and are not shy about them. Many are even proud of their multi-colored braces in the form of stars or animals, which favorably distinguishes them from their peers. It is best to take your child to an orthodontist at the age of 6-7. It is then that the first permanent teeth begin to erupt. An experienced doctor will already be able to determine whether the child will have malocclusion in the future. If a problem is identified, the orthodontist will be able to influence the direction of tooth growth, correction of the rate of development and the size of the jaws.

Orthodontic appliances are limited in variety and capabilities. Once upon a time it was really so. But today dentistry offers more than one option to solve occlusion problems. First of all, it can be a removable plate, which is used at the age of 6 to 10 years, when the bite is formed. Also, special mouthguard trainers are used, which outwardly resemble a boxing splint, but are transparent at the same time. Mouthguards are used between the ages of 6 and 15. Children are advised to wear a mouthguard for 1.5-2 hours throughout the day. At a more mature age, at 11-12 years old, when the tops of the roots have already been formed, orthodontists recommend using braces.

Braces make a child a freak and an outcast. Today, ugly and bulky braces are no longer used by dentists. Modern systems are so diverse and attractive that children and adolescents themselves use them with pleasure, not at all fearing ridicule from their peers. Braces are small locks that are attached to the inside or outside of the teeth. The clasps are connected to each other by a thin metal arc, which is capable of remembering the state of the form and assuming its original state, regardless of how it is not bent.Currently, the child himself can choose the color of his braces or paint it in any desired form - from transparent to multicolored. The advantage of braces is the fact that you can place figures on them, so beloved by children - patterns, toys and even animals. The braces themselves are made from different materials, and therefore have a different appearance and degree of effectiveness. Dentists usually prefer to use inexpensive and high-quality metal, although there are products made of plastic, ceramics and even artificial sapphires. Today, the latest developments of doctors have become widespread - translucent effective braces, which are generally invisible on the teeth, since, moreover, there are also less traditional braces.
